SURVEY RESULTS

A survey of Torrance Airport customers was performed during the month of June 2025. The survey investigated the following topics:

CUSTOMER PROFILE

Over half of the airport customers who responded to the survey are hangar tenants and over 60% of them own their own aircraft. Over half of those customer have been located on Torrance Airport for over 20 years--nearly one-fifth for over 40 years! Last year's survey showed 75% were hangar tenants and 56% owned their aircraft.

Over half of the respondents (57%) are Private Pilots and one-third have Commercial certificates. Nearly one third are also Flight Instructors.

AIRPORT CONDITION

Torrance Airport's runway and taxiway lighting came in for the highest level of criticism. Taxiway lights have been inoperative for five years and continued promises of repairs have not materialized. Trash collection and public restrooms were also singled out for criticism.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Successful businesses strive to maintain a positive perception in their customers' minds. Survey respondents were asked how they would rate their interactions with airport and city employees. Some respondents reported no interactions with some of those organizations. The results shown here are only of those who did interact with them.

How would you rate your experience interacting with airport/city employees?




Airport Operations and the Airport Office rated highly in the survey respondents' minds. City management and City Council rated poorly with the respondents.

AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS

The first priority of the survey respondents is the installation of an Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS). Torrance Airport is one of the few public-use airports without this valuable safety system. The AWOS design and installation has been underway since 2021. The design is complete and the equipment has been purchased and received--awaiting site preparation. Certification of this project by the FAA could be accomplished by the end of the year.

As noted previously, the repair of the inoperative airfield lighting system is a high priority. No progress on this issue has been made in over five years in spite of numerous commitments.
