AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS
How would you rate the importance of the following airport improvements?
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
- You need only look at the May 23 accident in San Diego to see the need for proper maintenance of airport
facilities. Airport lights not functioning, no current weather broadcasts , poor maintenance of the airport
all contributed to the loss of 6 lives and Millions of dollars in damage.
- These “improvements” have been discussed with the city of Torrance (who now seems to
- hold the purse strings of our airport) for several years now, and still nothing get done.
- How about just having city management value the airport and its users again?
- Terrible management
- This facility should be at least as well maintained as the Torrance public transit system's vehicles and
facilities.
- Reinstate the Airport Commission, put the airport income back where it belongs with the airport commission
and use it as is legally required. Stop trying to strangle the airport and start promoting and take advantage of it as an attraction.
- Lighting is the biggest issue.
- Manager, City council, noise abatement, airport commission don't care about the airport and all it's issues,
that you'll see when you tally up this survey. They only want to take and not give back. Originally all the monthly
funds were to go back into the airport. That hasn't happened since I came here over 45+ years ago.
- Delete landing fees!!!
- As previously stated, alleyways between T hangars began decomposing right after the last time they were "slurry
sealed." Redo the asphalt with a higher grade of asphalt so that sand isn't continuously released to blow into
hangars.
- Repair and open the middle east - Ts restrooms.
- Repair and service the existing east - Ts restroom.
- Repairs and services are needed - not more meetings.
- Need additional restroom facilities, maybe restore the restroom in the East T hangars and another facility near
the west end of the field
- Would be nice if someone could kick-start the long-in-the-works airport restaurant. I recently spoke with one
of the guys who would own/run it, and they're still trying to make it happen.
- And get that mid-East T's restroom working again. It's been closed for the 25 years I've been a tenant.
- Please bring water to the East Ts. Just a spigot at the end of each row would make a world of improvement
- We need Jet A & more hangars! Follow our president's lead, completely axe noise abatement! We need more
controllers. the airspace around the airport can handle more than 5 planes in the pattern. So the controllers
should be able to accommodate as well.
- Please work with the tenants and pilots and treat us as customers not as piggy banks to be broken open. Do
not punish us or blame us for the problems the City or Airport management has caused by raising fees and making
unsafe rules.
- Torrance Airport is a wonderful facility and they should be proud to work there. Staff seems to have been told
to try to not spend any money on the airport. They seldom interact with us "customers" who often are Torrance
residents and pay their salaries. So different from other municipal airports and it's a darn shame.
- like it or not the airport is a huge community and should be supported as such
1. Airport maintance should occur in such a fashion that minimizes loss of use of the runways. They have been
thousands of hours of loss runway use. Due to decisions made at the airport.
2. Paying tenants of the airport should have 10-15 landings per month credit applied to any landing fees for
Aircraft less than 6000 pounds.
3. To encourage quiet flight , departure hours should be expanded for Aircraft with sound impacts less than
a Harley Davidson motorcycle accelerating from a stop sign 50 feet away. Or even a minivan backing out of a tight
parking space at a Torrance apartment building. Significantly Quieter aircraft should be able to take off all hours
of the day, just like standard automobiles can drive away from hi-density apartment buildings in the middle the
night to go on a long distance family trip. I spent thousands of dollars on a special quieter propeller how about
letting me leave the Torrance area early in the morning for a long flight.
- The tarmac in front of the tiedowns is bumpy and needs to be resurfaced. When the slurry has been applied in
the past has been very poorly applied and not supervised by anyone that cares
- I think this covers it all. No wait. Get rid of the landing fees.
- It seems that the AWOS system expense, which is estimated to be north of $700k, is not only costly but may not
be necessary. With two major airports within 10 NM of TOA, cannot weather data be extrapolated from these other
sources? Has TOA been without AWOS for its entire existence?
